So, you have a job interview set up.

I’ve interviewed about twenty candidates in my life so I would like to offer some tips. My first tip is that you should set up interviews while you are still employed somewhere else. You should be sure and dress professionally for the interview. A male should be dressed in a suit and tie or sports coat and tie. A female should wear a business suit and nice blouse and hose and medium high, closed toe, heels. You should be squeaky clean. For females, you need to wear your hair and makeup in a professional manner. Meaning, not too much makeup and no outlandish hair do. You should be five to ten minutes early. Do not ever be late! You should have practiced what you will say ahead of time. You should have read up on the job requirements.

Find out as much as you can about the interviewer and company. You need to offer statements that reflect what you can contribute to the company or interviewer. You, of course, have a professional looking resume’ with you. You may have to get help with this and I recommend that you do. Try to stay as positive as you can about every single aspect of the interview. Be attentive. Answer questions politely and honestly. Look your interviewer straight in the eyes. Have some thought out questions of your own to ask. Do not ask about salary or vacation time unless your interviewer brings it up. Do not speak of your current or previous employment in any derogatory manner. Do not lie about your past history, your personal information or anything else as you could be found out and of course this can come back to bite you in the rear end. After an interview, write a personal, hand written, note to the interviewer to thank him for his/her time. Do this even if you find out you did not get the job.

I hope these tips help you.
