Do you have nightmares? If you do not, you are extremely lucky. I certainly have had my share. I want to tell you what I do to help me prevent my most common nightmares. Each night, before I go to bed, I start off by saying to myself that I “will not” dream about the following. I then list the topics that I do not want to dream about. For instance, I do not want to dream about animals that have tried to attack me in my dreams. These animals include bears, horses, snakes, monsters, etc. I list them all. I also list myself trying desperately to find a public bathroom that is “usable.” Some bathrooms have glass doors that are totally open to the public. Or they are covered in fecal matter. Or some variation of the above. I also have nightmares where I am on a cliff and am falling off. Anyway, you get the idea. You might think that this would take forever but I am so use to doing it that it doesn’t take long at all and actually works. That does not mean I never have nightmares as my brain can come up with something I haven’t mentioned but this doesn’t happen often. By the way, there are many medications that can cause nightmares. I have read many accounts of this. If you think this might be a problem for you, talk to your doctor as there might be another substitute available. Thank goodness this hasn’t happened to me but I will tell you that “sauerkraut” gives me the most bloody nightmares imaginable. I love sauerkraut but don’t dare eat it. I have tried different brands and eating it before noon rather than after but nothing works, not even my tips. So, I now do not touch it.
I read another “tip” about solving the nightmare problem and that was to do this prior to bedtime. Imagine yourself as this “giant” who can look down on anything that might try to harm you. Then visualize yourself stepping on the problem as if it were even smaller than an ant. If my “list” did not work so well, I would try this.
Here’s to hoping I have helped someone out there to never having another nightmare.
